Samenvatting
The final step to Indiana's undefeated season was the 1976 NCAA Championship Game against Big Ten Conference foe Michigan. It was the first time that two teams representing the same conference would meet in an NCAA Championship Final. Michigan had finished second to Indiana in the Big Ten race, and hoped to switch places in the big dance.
The speedy Ricky Green led Michigan to a 35-29 advantage running a breathtaking fast break offense. But Scott May, Kent Benson and Quinn Buckner combined for 36 of Indiana's first 38 points in the second half to erase the deficit and propel the Hoosiers to 86-68 victory, a perfect record and the national title.
