Samenvatting
Originally commissioned for the BBC's Arena documentary series, Searching For The Wrong- Eyed Jesus is a lyrical and enjoyably idiosyncratic portrait of the American Deep South from British filmmaker Andrew Douglas.
Acting as guide and narrator is the Florida-born alt-country singer Jim White who, in his beat-up 1970 Chevy, tours the byroads of the region, stopping off to talk to people and offer them a succinct summary of their life options: "Choose Jesus or choose hell." Yet, in examining the conflict between the sacred and the profane, this leisurely film celebrates the rich tradition of Southern storytelling and artistic creativity - with local musicians such as Johnny Dowd, The Handsome Family and Lee Sexton performing their plaintive songs in everyday locations. The DVD also includes music left out of the final cut, which adds to a diverting and unique travelogue through the US of A.
